TUESDAY, JANUARY 21st: the board of commissioners approved a request by Laurence Development, Inc. to construct a 7,200 square foot retail space that will become an O’Reilly Auto Part Store. The 0.99 acre lot is located at 19,425 Statesville Road.
Cornelius Town Board meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 7pm in the Assembly Room at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Avenue, Cornelius, NC 28031. You can view current and past agendas as well as video streaming of the meetings on the Cornelius Town Hall website.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 28th: Four residents spoke out during the public comment portion of the town board meeting about cycling safety. According to the speakers, cyclists in general feel as though they are not respected by other motorists. With the growth Davidson is experiencing, this has been and continues to be a major issue. The town board realizes it. Several residents have been injured recently in cycling accidents, including some who spoke out at the meeting. One cyclist was tragically killed.
The town is working on a plan. Concerned cyclists are meeting with town officials, including the chief of police. Mayor Rusty Knox encouraged concerned residents to hold conversations with mayors of Mooresville, Concord, and Kannapolis. Between the four cities and three counties (Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Cabarrus), there are nearly 150 miles of public roadway that cyclists as well as motorists are entitled to use. The town board is going to work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to see how the primary, state-maintained roadways that cyclists use in the area can be improved and what safety mechanisms can be implemented. They caution however, that when dealing with the NCDOT, patience is a virtue.
Davidson Town Board meetings are open to the public and occur on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. TUESDAY, JANUARY 28th: the town board denied a request via a 5-1 vote for utility service from EPCON Communities for a property located at 1,828 Mecklenburg Highway. The primary reason for the denial was concern from the board that appropriate town services would not be able to be provided, and the request did not fit within the scope of the OneMooresville plan.
