Who’s Hot, Who’s Not

I recently read an article that stated that fantasy football is all about matchups.  It is a game of playing the percentages.  You look at the statistics and determine if a certain team has been weak against the run, therefore, I am going to play my running back who is opposing them.  While I understand this strategy it needs to come with a caveat.  If a player has been performing well and you are happy with his production, then this player needs to be in your lineup regardless of the matchup.  This applies to your regular starting team and not just the weekly “must start” players.  This is a personal rule that I regretfully have not always followed.  I had a Tampa Bay RB years ago who I decided to bench because of the matchup.  This RB accounted for 65 points while sitting on my bench.  One year I lost a Super Bowl by one point.  I decided to be smart and play the matchups.  Therefore, I benched WR Cooper Kupp and replaced him with D.K. Metcalf.  Cooper Kupp did his usual thing of about 80 yards and a TD.  D.K. Metcalf had zero receptions.  When it comes to replacement players due to byes and injuries it completely makes sense to make your decision based on the best matchup.  Otherwise, I recommend sticking with the players who are performing and getting you to where you are.

There were four notable transactions this week.  First, the Las Vegas Raiders traded WR Davante Adams to the New York Jets where he will be reunited with QB Aaron Rodgers.  This trade boosts the value of both players and helps WR Garrett Wilson.  It adversely impacts the production of WR Alan Lazard and makes WR Mike Williams irrelevant.  It does not significantly impact on the value of any Raiders as the team has been playing without Adams for a couple of weeks.

Another transaction had the Cleveland Browns trade WR Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills.  This move provides QB Josh Allen with a true number one WR that the team desperately needed since WR Stefon Diggs was traded.

The Houston Texans traded RB Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings.  With RB Aaron Jones ailing, this move provides the Vikings with depth behind backup Ty Chandler.  Also, the Green Bay Packers cut PK Brayden Narveson and replaced him with Brandon McManus who is a serviceable fantasy PK.

Cincinnati Bengals (-3.5) at New York Giants Final Score: Cin. 17  NYG 7

Buffalo Bills (-2.5) at New York Jets Final Score: Buf. 23  NYJ 20

Week 6 Record:  3 – 0 Season Record:  10 – 8

Week 7 Selections Versus the Point Spread

New Orleans Saints (+2.5) vs. Denver Broncos

Denver’s defense has been great, and the offense is improving as QB Bo Nix gets experience.  Rookie QB Spencer Rattler played well in his debut for the Saints who lost four in a row after two blowout wins.  The Saints play angrily after last week’s embarrassment.  Take the points.

New York Jets (-1.5) at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Jets offense looked much better Monday night against the Buffalo Bills and now QB Aaron Rodgers gets WR Davante Adams back.  Rodgers’ quick release will negate the Steelers pass rush.

Baltimore Ravens (-3.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Ravens offense is rolling with RB Derrick Henry, which opens the passing game.  QB Baker Mayfield has been playing great, but the Ravens’ running game is too much.
